A New Start
Beginning of a new chapter
I joined Google earlier this week. This begins a new chapter in my career and my life in general. I will be working on the Dataproc team based out of India. From what I hear, they are ramping up this team in India. I am quite excited about this new opportunity and at the same time a little nervous. After 18 years of working in a startup, adapting to a Google or a corporate culture would certainly be challenging.
Over the next several weeks, I hope to bring out certain learnings and my opinion of working in a startup. And also comment on some interesting stuff that I read along.
Starlink seems to be becoming more and more real. A futuristic idea, which seems more real today compared to other bets of Elon (Hyperloop and others). Watch this Low Earth Orbit visualization and look for Starlink satellites. It puts in perspective the effort put in to provide Internet to the remotest area at a large scale. People are already reporting amazing speed with low latencies. Could this be the future of Internet delivery? Could this also replace the undersea cable infrastructure, the backbone of the Internet?
A new and non-intuitive way to treat depression by forcing the patient to be awake. Popular literature talks about the benefits of good sound sleep on the body and the mind. But desperate times do call for desperate measures. A lot of open questions in this article and it should be read with a grain of salt.

Congratulations and all the very best, Mayank :-)
